1st international "water and film" event
The French Water Academy, the International Secretariat for Water and the Comisión Nacional del Agua (CONAGUA) organized jointly the First International Water and Film Event during the 4th World Water Forum in Mexico City in March 2006. For one week, film and audiovisual productions celebrated water in all its visual and dramatic expressions: aquatic myths and legends, rituals and traditions, public baths, wetland protection, aquatic ecosystems, drinking water and sanitation, floods, major structures, dams, pollution, conflicts over water resource and its use. With more than 350 films of exceptional cultural diversity, coming from over 50countries, this event portrayed the deep and complex links between water and film, focusing on man's interaction with nature, his contribution to the improvement or to the deterioration of his environment around the world. The films belonged to four categories: feature films, documentaries, awareness-raising short films and awareness-raising spots. The spots turned out to be the most dynamic category. They were the works of young filmmakers, under 30. They helped mobilize youth by providing them with a creative voice.
